The Fall for Otro is the perfect way to spend these dark cold evenings. @otrorestaurant are offering this menu two course for £20 (3 for £25) which includes a welcome cocktail!
I everything we ate was absolutely delicious there halloumi fries are top notch however loved the gnocchi with wild mushroom and Jerusalem artichokes! Thanks to @littleladyofleith for inviting me along we were absolutely spoilt by the lovely staff @otrorestaurant

Hello, precious friends, and Happy Tuesday to you! I’m looking forward to a Happy Wednesday as well with gorgeous blue skies, Farmers’ Market music dancing along the frisky breezes, and great food under the pavilion. So don’t waste it inside! Come and spend your lunchtime with us. Pan seared salmon snuggled atop fresh papaya noodles makes for a healthy refreshing lunchtime meal. Add a cup of Kandy’s sweet jasmine tea (she also has unsweet) and you have a lunch fit for a…well…you! Ouzi is the star of Abeer’s lunch menu this week — phyllo dough stuffed with spicy rice, beef, and carrots, and other exotic flavors. Ouzi ,with a little tzatziki on the side —yum! Eggs, beautiful eggs; the Double K hens have been working hard for you. Pick up a sack of satsumas from Jerry….sweet…sweet…juicy sweet. No worries, he still has lots of honey and blueberry jam!
Don’t forget, you can roast pumpkin slices (Mr. Houston) with any type seasoning you would like —sweet or savory. I’ll include the recipe at the bottom. Abeer’s tzatziki makes a wonderful dipping “sauce.” We have a new vendor on Wednesday, as you can see from the attached menu. The French Stall has joined us and Jerome and Gabby have some magnificent choices for you this week. Turkey or Salmon Croquettes Monsieur, Vegetable Quiche, Ratatouille…maybe the Farmers’ Market String Band will brush up on their Parisian melodies to give us that authentic bistro experience. There will be chocolate macaroons, crepes, and Madeleines as well so maybe we’ll just enjoy the totally Covington Farmers’ Market experience. I always hate it when the clocks go back and it suddenly becomes so dark and wintry. But @otrorestaurant have cheered me right up with their fantastic ‘Fall for Otro’ menu which is only £20 for two courses (or £25 for three) including a delicious welcome cocktail! I’m a big fan of Otro and have been for their Sunday lunch several times (which I’d highly recommend if you haven’t been!) so I was delighted to kindly be invited along to try this seasonal menu. @giraffesfoodadventures and I were truly spoilt; the food was all absolutely delicious and the service was just charming. I honestly couldn’t fault a thing! Remember to give yourself a break, friends, as you’re dashing through the stores. Wednesday is just bells’ jingle away and we’d be pleased to have you join us for lunch. Leela’s Honduran sausage was amazing last week and Mike will have it again this week. I found that it gave a different zing to eggs and sausage, especially if your eggs are Double K. Abeer is focusing on her specialties this week. Her spinach pies are delightful. Dip them into hummus or tzatziki or baba gahnoush for an even tastier meal. You may want to get extra because they are crazy good dips for party chips.
While you’re thinking of parties, Leela’s spinach artichoke dip is a delightful addition to your snack tray. Chicken sausage gumbo and shrimp and grits lead the way on Joy’s table. She’ll have bread pudding as well! I really enjoyed Jerome’s vegetable quiche last week and am thinking of indulging in the zucchini quiche this week. Jerry promises to have gift-sized jars of honey available, so you can say “Merry Christmas” with sweet sincerity. Since the weather is going to be frosty for the rest of the week, Kandy’s pho is definitely called for. Her chicken broth has an exotic flavor that adds something special to “chicken soup”. Yes, lunch at the Covington Farmers’ Market will make you a jolly, happy soul even without the corncob pipe. Top of a frosty Tuesday, friends! It may be a bit on the chilly side but don’t let that stop you from a delicious lunch. Sounds like a good day to pick up Pho from Kandy. Yes, that’s right. What better time for chicken soup? But this is no ordinary soup. The breast meat chicken is simmered with lovely healing spices — star anise, coriander, cinnamon, peppercorns and cloves —and that just the broth! Then you can add noodles, bean sprouts, limes cilantro, Thai basil in amounts to suit your taste, plus a sriracha and hoisin sauce! I feel better already. Joy is still on the mend but she says she plans to be there with a delightful gumbo. Knowing Joy, this gumbo has chicken, sausage, and seafood. Can it get any better? Oh yes! Jerome is planning to make more of his sweet potato & carrots soup. Take it from me, it was dee-lish! And, he is preparing turkey and/or smoked salmon crepes. Ooh la la!
Since Abeer was not able to make it last week, she promised to make Ouzi again. Such a wonderful combination of rice, beef, carrots, peas, and almonds all wrapped in phyllo dough. No worries, she’ll have her hummus and baba ghanouj and grape leaves, too. Bags of satsumas, that’s what Jerry has for us. Just the thing for an extra burst of vitamin C. Mr. Houston’s table will feature green onions (a terrific topping for any soup or stew) and greens. Don’t forget your Double K eggs! A quick sauté of greens will make a tasty “bowl” for an over easy egg. Happy Thanksgiving, friends! Yes, the holidays are just around the corner but before you get into the hub and bub of the season, why not take a few minutes to regroup with a fantastic lunch. A Tomato Tart or Quiche Lorraine from Jerome may be just the thing you need to get you through Black Friday. Yes, let’s not forget that shopping starts bright and early on Friday or even late Thursday in some cases. You’ll need a good pick me up (or two). Pho comes to mind as a perfect soother for tired feet and minds and Kandy’s easy-fix package has everything you’ll need. Plus, Kandy will also have chicken porridge and fabulous salads. Double K hens are donning their santa hats and producing like crazy. They don’t want to be caught on the naughty list.
Blueberry jam from Jerry not only makes a wonderful gift but is excellent on biscuits or toast and is so easy to fix. Open jar. Spread. Done. He may even have those lovely gift-sized jars of honey which make a lovely “thank you” if you’ve been invited to share Thanksgiving with a friend. And, if you really don’t have much time, Joy’s gotcha covered. She’ll have pans of bread pudding and sweet potato soufflé, 6” sweet potato pies, and stuffed merliton halves (with shrimp!) We are also welcoming a new vendor to Wednesday — Leela’s Love. Mike and Leela make a fantastic spinach artichoke dip that is sure to please any hostess. It’s also great to just relax at home with some chips (or veggie dippers) after a rough day. A lovely pumpkin fit for a pie from Mr. Houston and some greens and green onions for seasoning and you’re set. What a delightful Tuesday, friends! We have a gorgeous day planned for tomorrow and a very tempting menu. We’ll take a little trip around the globe with our cuisine, starting on the “continent” with Jerome’s fabulous Quiche Lorraine and Smoked Salmon Croques Monsieur. C’est ci bon! Then onto Jordan and an oh-so-fantastic organic lentil soup made by Abeer. Here you can take home delicious hummus, grape leaves, tzatziki…. Before you know it, Vietnam has your heart, with Kandy’s Pho or lovely shrimp or chicken summer rolls. You may not want to return but, let me tell you, cher, you ain’t gonna want to pass by Joy’s Shrimp and Grits and bread pudding! All of that accompanied by the jaunty tunes of our own Farmers’ Market Band. Double K chickens are delighted and producing. Jerry’s bees have been busy and so have his citrus trees. Mr. Houston’s garden is blooomin’ and all is right with the world—well, at least till you have to go back to work.
